Every year, I like to take a look at all that I've read since the year began. In 2017, I decided to start reviewing some of my favorites. It's an incredibly imperfect system; I tend to follow my heart when it comes to my reading list, so in any given year I'm reading things from all genres that were published in no particular order. Some of my favorites inevitably end up being outliers with few things to compare or contrast them.
The solution I arrived at was to pick a category where I read most broadly, and most currently; graphic novels. My criteria are few: the books are in a graphic format and published that calendar year. I'll consider things written for any audience, fiction or non-fiction, and adaptations or webcomics being published in print for the first time are eligible. My ranking system is on my whim; I usually have an easy time picking seven or so, with two or three definitive rankings, and then I choose the rest and the order from there. It's purely for fun, self-reflection, and sharing out some of what I read. Enjoy!
